STANDISH TOWN COUNCIL
DATE: May 10, 2005
ORDER NUMBER: 62-05 Submitted by: Lymburner
TITLE: RESOLUTION REGARDING MSAD#6 PROPOSED BUDGET FOR FY 2006
WHEREAS, the express purpose of both Question 1A (adopted by the voters on June 8, 2004) and LD1 (the phased-in, four year implementation of Question 1A enacted by the Legislature on January 20, 2005) was to secure meaningful property tax relief by infusing more state resources into the financing of Maine’s public schools, and
WHEREAS, MSAD#6 will receive an increase of $2,973,790 in State Share funding for 2005-2006 over 2004-2005 -- a one-year 21% increase in State Allocation funding, and
WHEREAS, MSAD#6 proposes a 2005-2006 budget that chooses to use all of the increased state aid without providing any property tax relief to Standish taxpayers, and
WHEREAS, the majority of the Directors on the MSAD#6 School Board from Standish oppose the proposed MSAD#6 2005-2006 Budget, now therefore be it
RESOLVED that the Standish Town Council hereby voices it opposition to the proposed MSAD#6 2005-2006 Budget and recommends a no vote at the June 2005 referendum election.
