The Town of Standish is divided into four areas for Council and Planning Board representation. Both of these boards consist of seven members, one member is elected from each of the town "areas" and three "at large" members. Even though these members are "area representatives" the voters of the entire Town elect them.

Voters of the Town of Standish also elect Standish representatives to Maine School Board Administration District 6 Board of Directors and Town Budget Committee. Both of these boards consist entirely of "at large" membership.
As of January 1, 2004 the Town of Standish has new State Representative and Senate Districts.

Standish House Districts are 102 and 103
Polls are held at the Standish Municipal Center which is located at 175 Northeast Road.
