One of the Harbormaster's primary responsibilities is to ensure that the boating public has access to Sebago Lake using the Town's public boat launch facility. By organizing parking, controlling traffic flow through the facility and coordinating the launching and retrieval of boats the Harbormaster can insure that all those who use the facility do so in an enjoyable, timely and safe manner.
The boat launch is technically open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It is recommended, however, that boaters be off the water by nightfall. The parking, ramp, and dock are not illuminated at night. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department patrols the area as frequently as possible, but those individuals who come in after dark or leave their vehicles overnight do so at their own risk.
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day during hours of peak usage on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and other days when special events are scheduled, the Harbormaster and assistants will be on duty at the facility between 7AM and 6PM (Except during inclement weather). During these times a launch fee is charged. Information or a copy of the launch fees can be obtained by contacting the Harbormaster through this web site, Standish Dispatch office at 207-642-4343, or the Town Clerk's Office at 207-642-4678.
This year from May 28, 2005 to September 5, 2005 the one dock at the boat ramp off Northeast Road Extension handled 2,071 boats one way. That is an increase of 220 boats over last year! The end of the season gas prices for the last three weekends were $3.40 per gallon.
